Associate Editor Neil Strother rarely utters a harsh word. But when it comes to searching the Net, even our research guru has a short fuse.
And since I don't want to have to do my own research, I rounded up this collection of search tools from the ZDNet Software Library. Highlights include:
eBot helps you scour the Net for free software and add-ons. It offers a substantial list to pick from. But it will also scan your Registry and then give you a heads up on plug-ins or apps your system needs. (Free/Win95-98-NT) Click for more.

MediaGrab locates a variety of multimedia files, including MP3, RA, MIDI, Wav and Avi. To start a search, just choose a format and enter an artist or track title. It will download found files with a doubleclick and will let you customize what engines and Usenet groups you want searched. (Shareware/Win95-98-NT) Click for more.
Copernic is a meta-search staple for many. The latest version, Copernic 2000, is as speedy and thorough as ever, and will search Web engines, shopping sites, newsgroups and email directories. It eliminates duplicate entries and validates links as well. (Free/Win95-98-NT) Click for more.
Now I just need to find Liz some editing downloads and maybe I can get her to write my stories for me.
PS: If you need help, I've linked the Easy Download Guide in the sidebar. And for more of my favorite downloads, be sure to bookmark our Killer Downloads page. Click for more.
